7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Michael Tingsager, Hospitality Mavericks

This unintended mini-series on leadership book reviews is back. The episode that we did on Good to Great by Jim Collins got such a high response that we decided to do another dive into a book that affected both of our careers.

This time we’re discussing 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. We were both introduced to this book early in our careers and it shaped our perception of not only team building but how we evolved our leadership styles.

Just like our last episode, we wanted to explore some of the concepts in the book and share a roadmap on how to take some of these principles and apply them to your personal and professional situation.

If you haven’t read 7 Habits, I hope this episode inspires you to pick it up. If you have, I hope we inspire you to dust it off and revisit some of these time-tested ideas.

- Being proactive (11:03)
- Begin with the end in mind (18:17)
- First things first (25:20)
- Think win-win (35:30)
- Seek first to understand, then to be understood (39:35)
- Synergize (45:47)
- Sharpen the saw (54:58)

About Michael
I have been living and breathing the hospitality and restaurant industry from the day I was born, and I started working in my mum and dad’s small restaurant group in rural Denmark from an early age. I spent six years building a 20+ unit cafe chain in Denmark; +11 years working for McDonald’s Denmark and UK, and more than 8 years as a consultant working with brands across Europe. I'm also the Co-founder of The Bear Kitchen in London, which is a catering business delivering planet-friendly food into offices across London. Once a week I produce and host The Hospitality Maverick Podcast, which all about inspiring leaders to build businesses from the inside out - businesses that makes positive impact on their people, their community and the planet.
